Gumboots in the Cheese Shop
Winter is Gumboot Season in the Yarra Valley.
There’s a chill in the air, the sky’s grey, and it’s wet underfoot but in July and August, Yarra Valley Gumboot Season is all about dry feet, warm coats, and cosy hats. Around the Yarra Valley cellar doors, restaurants and providores are puttinig on winter friendly activities and we are part of it. We have some very artfully placed gumboots in the shop and we will be offering tastings of our incredible (and very rare) Bulls Eye through August. It’s all about rugging up and putting on your best gumboots and having a splash around the Yarra Valley’s wineries and restaurants. It’s all about warm welcomes at Cellar Doors, hearty winter food at cosy restaurants and brisk walks in the country. It’s all about open fires and relaxed conversations with winemakers who’d far prefer to be inside talking to you about their wine instead of out in the vineyard pruning. Most of all, it’s all about you getting off the sofa, getting yourself out to the Yarra Valley and having some fun in the wintery fresh air. Yarra Valley Gumboot Season – warm up in a cool place... Hello White Savourine
YARRA VALLEY DAIRY INTRODUCES A NEW CLASSIC
Yarra Valley Dairy is introducing a new cheese to its range. White Savourine is a semi-matured, surface ripened goats’ milk cheese made in a traditional log shape. The texture is firm and dense with a slightly moist, creamy textured pâté. The flavour is delicate, somewhat like roasted nuts and has a citric finish that lingers on the palate. As it matures the white mould facilitates a more complex, robust, and tangy flavour with earthy yet citrusy accents.
The ways we use our White Savourine -
• Sliced and toss through a warm roast vegetable salad
• Melted on sourdough or brioche for indulgent ‘cheese on toast’
• In a tarte tatin with granny smith apples
• Sliced on pizza with roast beetroot, rocket and pine nuts
• On a cheese plate with pickled walnuts and sour dough
• Baked with pumpkin as a gratin
